ARTS MINISTRY

At Church of the Cross, we believe that creative work matters. It also has the capacity to deepen our practices of worship, and has a great missional power to welcome those outside of Christ into Truth, beauty, and goodness. We seek to engage with the arts through the Anglican liturgical year, both in our worship services and through events and programming that directly support and encourage artists.

Church of the Cross has a long history of integrating art into worship, and of engaging Christian artists. In 2011, Church of the Cross hosted its first Easter Vigil service, which is an annual liturgical service that takes place on Holy Saturday, where we welcome and celebrate the arts as central to the re-telling of the Biblical narrative, from Creation to the Resurrection. Over the years, our commitment to engaging the arts—both in the Easter Vigil and throughout the liturgical year—has grown wider and deeper.

In addition to engaging the arts through our liturgical worship, we seek to cultivate, support, and disciple Christian artists through commissions, concerts, and events that honor and promote their work. We also host Arts Collectives: a 5-week small group offered twice a year for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the call to creativity.

The CotC Arts Ministry is led by our Arts Pastor, Rev. Anna Friedrich. If you are interested in learning more or taking part in Arts Ministry at CotC, you can reach out to Anna at anna@cotcboston.org.
